Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully this section will answer any questions you have with regards to our classes. If you have any questions that have not been answered on this page feel free to use our Contact Form.

1. What Do I Need To Wear/Bring To A Class? Anything I Should Avoid?

Comfort comes first in our classes. It is recommended to wear shorts and a tank top to ensure skin contact with the pole. We generally warm up in leggings or legwarmers with shorts underneath to be ready to go! Our term classes are barefoot, so no shoes necessary.

Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated and a towel to clean your hands and the pole you are using. Don't wear lotions/creams/oils on the day of class, as it could make you slippery and can be dangerous.

2. Do I Need To Be "Fit" To Join?

It is not a necessity, as you will be starting from scratch, building your strength in class towards more advanced moves. If you are unsure, you can always ask your doctor.

2. Do I Need To Have A Dance Background To Join?

A dance background can help, but you don't need one to join. We start from scratch to help with coordination and flow.

3. I Have A Dance Background, Do I Still Need To Start in Absolute Beginners?

You would still need to start in Absolute Beginners, as you need to learn the fundamentals of Pole Dancing to progress into the harder moves.

4. I Do Other Forms Of Fitness, Do I Still Need To Start In Absolute Beginners?

You would still need to start in Absolute Beginners, as you need to learn the fundamentals of Pole Dancing to progress into the harder moves. We can always show progressions of the fundamentals if they are too easy for you!

5. What Is The Difference Between Pole Dance And Pole Fitness?

Here at Spykes, we do both as they are both a necessity to be a great all round poler. We incorporate Pole Fitness which focuses on the strength required to accomplish your moves, and Pole Dance which focuses on combos and flow, putting the moves together in a sequence to form a piece of choreography, which will together work on your strength, flexibility, coordination and flow.

6. I Have Taken Pole Classes Before, Do I Still Need To Do The Absolute Beginner Term?

Not necessarily, it depends on how long it's been since you've taken Pole classes. There is no harm in attending the Absolute Beginners term if you didn't take many classes, as different pole studios offer different teaching methods and you could still learn new things! If you are unsure, contact us and we can discuss what is suitable for you!

7. Is There An Age Limit To Join?

It is never too late  to start! We have a student in her early 50's and she's a badass on the Pole! You are more than welcome to join us! But unfortunately under 18s are currently not able to join. But watch this space, as it may change pretty soon!

8. I Have A Medical/Physical Condition That Could Affect Me In Pole Class. Can I Still Join?

If there is anything you are unsure of, please contact us beforehand to make sure you don't need a doctors note to join.

9. Do We Have To Wear Heels In Class?

We do most of our Pole classes barefoot. If you want to try heels, come to our Spykesotic class, where we focus on the sexy side of Pole.

10. Do We Have To Do "Sexy" Pole?

Not at all! In Term class we focus on Spins Tricks and Transitions, and we choreograph them together in a variety of styles!

11. Can Guys Join A Pole Class?

Guys are welcome! But it can benefit more to sign up for Privates as the choreography style is tailored mainly for women, and if you are more interested in Pole Sport.

12. How Many Classes Can I Sign Up For?

A term class is one class a week, at the same day and time organised. There are also drop in classes if you can't get enough!

13. If I Can't Make All 4 Classes, Do I Miss Out On The Classes I Paid For?

If you give adequate notice of your absence in the duration of your term (as specified in the T & CS you will sign upon booking) you will have the opportunity to make up your missed class in another term class slot on the timetable. If you have any questions on missed classes contact us.

14. If I Join An Absolute Beginners Term and Decide Pole Is Not For Me, Can I Get A Refund?

There is always a waiting list to sign up for classes, and if you only attend a portion of your term that leaves an open space unable to be filled. For that reason we cannot give a refund. This is agreed on the forms signed upon booking.
